The land, changed hands six times, the last price being £11,400. The six sales had put £lll3 into the pockets of the land agents and £650 into the pockets of the lawyers. These commissions and fees were almost sufficient to buy a farm of the same size and of the best quality land anywhere in England where the butter and cheese produced would be within half-a-day’s journey of the same market as the produce of the Waikato farm.
