THAMES TROTTING CLUB.

SUCCESSFUL ANNUAL MEETING. TONY VICTOR’S SURPRISE IN THE CUP. BLACK MAGIC AND SOME DILLON DOUBLE WINNERS LORD HALDANE DISQUALIFIED AND OWNER FINED. Fop Its annual meeting, which was held on Saturday the Thames Trotting Club was favoured with Ideal weather. The big attendance improved gate receipts to the extent of £l7O while totallsator returns advanced by £3645 in a total of £20,307 From the racing standpoint the quality of the sport was good. There was a surprise when Tony Victor led Hal Chimes, Te Wahia and a useful field at the conclusion of the Cup Journey. Great Ballin, who was favourite, answered the requirements in the sprint event, the Kopu Handicap, in which Warplane was second and Benefice third. Some Dillon and Black Magic were double winners at the meeting. The former led Marionette and Dealer at the conclusion of the Kerepeehi Handicap while Nathaniel and Zealous were his closest attendants when the judge was reached in the Turua Handicap. Black Magic beat Joy Ride and Lochade in the Parawai Handicap while he got the thick end of the stake in the President’s Handicap, with Lochade and Joy Ride in the lesser awards, as the result of Lord Haldane, who finished first, being disqualified for the race on th 9 grounds of Inconsistent running. The Hikutaia Handicap went to Gold Treasure with Lord Lou and Inverness In that order of the others, while Gaza led from end to end of the Puriri Handicap to have Nathaniel and Tiny Rose second and third respectively at the conclusion of the mile event in saddle.

NOTES ON THE RUNNING. There were twenty-two starters for the Hikutaia Handicap, Elea wall, Roland and Whakahihi being the scrulchings. Inverness was favourite with £3(J more than Prince Pedro, while Gold Treasure was next in request. Gold Treasure, driven by A. ,l. Julian, made up his ground steadily and scored nicely by half a length. Lord Lou, who finished - second, was driven by J. T. Paul. That lie was returning in the vicinity of a score to win, is explained to a material extent by the fact that the name of another driver, for whom Paul was substituted, was posted on the board. The favourite might have been second but for breaking three furlongs from home. He came again, but could not do better than third. Don Juan, who was fourth, made most of the running, but tired over the concluding stages. Some Dillon Succeds. Carnui was the only withdrawal from the Kerepeehi Handicap for which there were fourteen starters. Dealer was the elect with £6l) more than Marionette, while Some Dillon was third in demand. Some Dillon and Marionette got a break on the others and fought it out, the former getting a comfortable verd.ct- Dealer, who -was a little unlucky, was third, with Haerangai Pai next. Easy to Black Magic. Albert Cry, Wiriwttata, Zanzibar and Tc Ngutu were missing from the Parawai Handicap, for which there were thirteen starters. Nebraska was £55 better thought of than Black Magic, while Kopu Boy was the best fancied of the others. The favourite broke up early. Black, Magic was the only one to do his work correctly and had a very easy win. Joy Ride was three lengths off, with Lochade and Lady Ena in that order of the rest. Won All the Way. There were fourteen starters in the Puriri Handicap, the saddle event, Petulant and Roland being the defections. Nathaniel was a solid favourite with £245 more than Realty, while Gaza was next in request. The latter hopped out smartly and was never headed, bettering the time set by 7 i-ssecs. Nathaniel was always in second place once they settled down. The outsider, Tiny Rose, headed Zealous for third place near the finish, the latter having tangled when going well. Nothing had a chance with the winner. The Race for the Cup. Cornelian was the only one missing from the Cup field, there being fifteen starters. In a keen investing race Peter Pirate was most in request with £2lB more than Te Wahia, while Limosa was next in demand. There was a surprise of the complete order in store when Tony Victor came home in front to give his supporters a return bordering on a third of a century. The winner, who ran second in this race last year and later in the day won the mile and a quarter, was well handled on the latest occasion and clearly outstayed the opposition. Hal Chimes finished with a rattle to beat Te Wahia by a head for second place Warplane, who was fourth, looked likely 100 yards from home, but failed to stay. Richore, who made all the running, was next, with Peter Pirate following, the latter s prospects being spoilt through dwelling at the start. Explosion, who was next, was covering extra ground all the way. Some Dillon’s Double. Belle Wilson, Gold Treasure, Judy Thorpe, President Wilson, Spendthrift, Gold Sound and Dealer were the withdrawals from the Turua Handicap for which there were thirteen starters. Som.c Dillon was re-handicapped from 12yds to 48yds for his success earlier in IhV day. ” My Thorpe was £233 belter hacked than Signor, with Carnui third choice. Some Dillon again proved equal to the occasion, beating Nathaniel by a head in a tight finish after the latter Hacl made most of the running. Zealous was right up third, with the favourite fourth, after being badly interfered with entering the hack the last. time. Lord Haldane Wins and Is Disqualified. For the President’s Handicap Te Ngutu, Zanzibar and Parrish Belle were scratched. Black Magic, an earlier winner, who was rchandicapped from the limit to 24yds was the elect with £253 more than Lord Haldane- The favourite had a good lead after the first seven furlongs of the two miles, hut Lord Haldane finished too well for him, the winner going 9 2-ssecs better than handicapped. Loechade was a moderate third, with Joy Ride at the head of the rest. An inquiry was held into Lord Haldane’s running as compared with his performance in the Parawai Handicap earlier in the day and he was disqualified for the race, Black Magic getting the verdict from Lochade, with Joy Ride third. This gave Black Magic his second success of the meeting. Fine Race in the Kopu. The big field of sixteen lined up for the Kopu Handicap, the sprint race of the card, Cornelian and Nella Dillon being the defections. Great Ballin (A. J. Julian), and Benefice (J. T. Paul), were very evenly supported, the former having 1 Os the better of the call, with Trustworthy in most request of the others. The favourite, finishing well, got home by a neck from Warplane who, in being at a quarter of a century to win, was returning a false price considering his

good effort in the Cup. Benefice was also prominent in the final tussle, being only a head away. Holioro, Childe Audubon and Hal Chimes were right at hand in a fine finish. The Ilawcra candidate Richore faded when the pressure was right on after making most of the runnnig. CONCLUDING RESULTS. TURUA HANDICAP.
