STATE TRADING.
AUSTRALIAN SYSTEM CRITICISED. UNEMPLOYMENT EXTREMELY BAD United Press Asm, —Elec. Tel. —Copyright. (Received March 31, 10.10 a.m.) VANCOUVER, March 30. Mr Guy W. Holcombe, a magistrate at Port Adelaide, in an interview declared that unemployment as an economic condition in Australia was extremely bad. “Our States have entered into many phases of business in competition with private capital, with in many cases, little success. Deficits were produced by State butcheries and bakeries, and men who would often have been weeded out for inefficiency in private business have been allowed to continue in Government positions.” Mr Holcombe blames automobiles for the State railway deficit.
