WATCHING THE ROADS.
HIGHWAYS COUNCIL TOUR. DEPARTURE FROM HAMILTON. Leaving Hamilton for Thames and Coromandel this morning, a dozen members of the Auckland South Highways Council commenced a week’s Lour of the district. Included in the party are eleven county representatives and one Government representative. The ■latter, Mr F- S- Dyson, district. Public Works engineer, told a Waikato rimes Reporter this morning -that the object of the tour was to effect an exchange of 1 outlook and viewpoint. Only by viewing the whole district could the individual county councillor fully appreciate its problems. Between to-day and Friday, when the tour will conclude at Auckland, the following-counties will be visited: Eden, Manukau, Franklin, Waikato, Raglan, Waipa, Coromandel, Thames, llauralci Plains, Ohinemuri, Piako and Matamata. The party will return to Hamilton on Wednesday evening. “I don’t thing the public is altogether dissatisfied with the ■ work of the Main Highways Board in this district,’’ said Mr Dyson before leaving this morning. “The extent. of the board’s work is realised when it is recalled that chains were necessary when driving over some roads a year or 'two ago.”
