About 5690 bales were sold. There was a small offering of greasy merinos and an excellent selection of crossbreds. Home trade demand predominated, and prices were fully firm. Wheat.—Fowl wheat is ip good demand at 7s 9d ex store, with larger quantities now available. Oats. —Southern quotations have dropped a penny, apparently owing to the harvest realising a good yield of A grade. These are moving out locally at 5s in small lots, and B grade at 4s lOd.

Chaff.—Steady at £lO :15s ex store for best southern. Merchants are expecting a shipment of Tasmanian early in April.

Pollard. —Orders are now- going forward to Australia for regular shipments of small quantities to conlinuc during the winter. Maize.—The balance of the South African shipment arrived by the Maungnnui from Sydney, amounting to 7000 sacks. The quality is good, with no sign of weevil, and further sales of small quantities ex store arc being made at 6s 9d to. 6s lOd. Fertilisers.—A record sale of fertilisers for the season see/ns to be assured, for immense quantities are going out from the local works every day, chiefly super. Large shipments have arrived from overseas, chiefly Belgian basic slag, amounting in all to about 20,000 tons, and most of this is being delivered at once. Potatoes.—Business has lately been almost confined to supplies from the

Rangitikei distreit, and an occasional lot from Pukekohe. The price has been maintained at £8 ex store, but early next week a shipment is expected from Canterbury, and this will probably sell at a reduction. Onions.—The market is decidedly weak, the large crop resulting in a wholesale selling price at Pukekohe down to £4 10s. City merchants are asking 5s 6d ex store, but the demand is not very heavy-, as buyers do not take any quantity to store, on account of the risk that they may not keep. Poultry.-—Cockerels, heavy, prime, 6s to 7s lOd each; not prime, 4s to ss; light, prime, 2s 6d to 4s; not prime, 2s to 3s; fat roosters, heavy, prime, 2s 6d to 3s 6-d; light, Is 9d to 2s 3d; fat hens, heavy-, 3s to 4s; light, 2s to 2s 3d; pullets, heavy, best-, 6s to 7s; smaller, 4s to ss; light, best, 6s to 7s; smaller, 4s to 5s 3d; drakes, young, prime, 3s 6d to 4s 4d; ducks, young, 2s 6d to 3s; turkey hens, 7s; gobblers, 17s to 18s 9d. Messrs Dalgety- and Company-, Ltd.! report having received the following cablegram from their London house, dated March 26: Tallow-. —-'The market is unchanged, except tallow mutton, which is? 6d lower. TE AWAMUTU SALE. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Hamilton, report: At Te Awamutu sale on Thursday last w-e submitted a good yarding of fat and store cattle and a large entry- of sheep, with pigs in full supply. Beef sold under steady competition, and values for • well-finished cows were a shade better than at other recent central markets. A line of nieequality Jersey heifers in calf attracted considerable attention, and wc sold several pens at £l2 per head. A fairly large entry of wcaner steers and heifers met with a good inquiry and practically' all changed bands. The demand for sheep was only moderate, but most lines were disposed of.
