Y.M.C.A. NOTES.

HAMILTON ACTIVITIES.

MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN. WORK IN THE GYMNASIUM. The past week has seen considerable activity in Y.M.C.A. . work in Hamilton. The Optimists Club held their welcly meeting, and after dinner had been served an address on the Big Brother movement and its significance was delivered by Mr E. G- W. Thorpe. (He stressed the importance of extending assistance and sympathy to juvenile offenders who appear at the courts, and considered that Optimists could render such service. Already a number of cases are under the -care of members of the Hamilton Club.

The Ladies’ Auxiliary have organised a bring and buy social afternoon, to toe held on Tuesday, April f. An invitation to be present is extended to all ladies, and it is hoped that the function wall be the means of augmenting the finances of the Association to a considerable extent. The work of the Ladies’ Auxiliary oannot be too highly eulogised, for it is through their efforts that many enjoyable functions arc organised for members of the Association. Membership Campaign. Although the number of members on the roll shows an increase over last years figures, the total is not as large as is desired, so the membership committee have decided to run . a “catch my pal” campaign, commencing on April 1, and concluding on May 1. To the member who succeeds in bringing the most new recruits in this period, a year’s membership of the Association is offered. This scheme is attracting considerable interest, and doubtless will result in a substantial increase in the roll, for there are few who do not realise the wonderful benefit derived from the physical training given In the gymnasium. There are classes for both sexes, and for all ages, and exercises are given to suit the capabilities of the members. The Hockey Team. Winter sports will soon be commenced, and the Association. is again to be represented on the hockey field. Intending members of the team are requested to hand in their names to the general secretary as early as possible. Leaders’ Corps Lectures. At last week’s meeting of the Corps an instructive address on first aid was delivered by Mr A. H. Boulton,of the St. John Ambulance Brigade. ■ A further lecture was given this week by Mr W. Eyre, who took as his subject “Life Saving,” and explained the various methods of rescue and treatment of the apparently drowned. It is intended to have a series of lectures on various subjects of interest to the Leaders’ Corps, and these should assist them considerably in carrying out their duties of instruction to their classes. Hi-Y'-Club Annual Meeting. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Hi-Y-Club, which was held on Friday evening. The Hi-Y-Club is a movement formed to provide a meeting place for the boys of secondary schools, who are members of the Y.M.C.A. The Hamilton Club has quite a good membership, and new recruits are continually being initiated. At the last meeting there were ten new membersThe election of officers for the ensuing year resulted: —President, Ralph Fear; vice-president., Knowles Louden; secretary, Pat McGrail; treasurer, Walter Tootell, sheriff, Robert Green; committee, Charles Burrows, Ralph Fear, Knowles Louden, Pat McGrail, William Tootell, Robert Green. Last night the Hi-Y-Club held their initiation ceremony, when ten new aspirants for membership were subjected to various trying tests, which caused .much amusement among the onlookers, although the subjects did not consider their tasks at all humourous. At the conclusion of the ceremony supper was served, and the meeting concluded.
