A POINT OF ORDER.

CONTENTIOUS MEASURE. discussion impossible. RUGBY UNION’S POSITION. / Expectations of a lively discussion on the contentious question of whether a club should he allowed to enter two teams in the senior competition and transfer players from one team to the | other were not realised at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Rugby Union last evening. Notices of motion including the controversial measure were placed before the meeting to he dealt with but had to be abandoned as it was found that the necessary ten days’ notice of such a question before it could be brought up at the annual meeting had not been given. The regulations In this connection could have been over-ruled by a unanimous decision to discuss the notices of motion. However, several delegates, including some from the Old Boys’ Club, opposed any variation of the rules and the matter lapsed. The following notice of motion was tabled by the Technical Old Boys’ dub :—“ That the constitution of the Hamilton Rugby Union be added to to provide that where an affiliated club desires to enter more than one team in the senior competition the approval of the Hamilton Rugby Union’s annual meeting shall be first obtained, and that in tlie event or the entry of two senior teams from one club being ap ■ proved, transfers from one team to the other shall not be permitted. Notices of motion providing for the alteration of rules were tabled by the Junior Advisory Board as follows : ■ Rule 10. New section E. To provide for sixth grade to weigh in at Ist 71b in jersey and shorts. Rule 19 (protests), fourth line. \mend to “ two days after the mate , at 5 p.m. on Monday,” and to add to the rule the following words “ such protests must bear the signature of the secretary of the club or in his absence that of the club captain. Rule 6. New section G. That delegates of country clubs shall be bona-flde members of the clubs, ana residents in the club district.” Mr T. D. Booth, who presided, admitted that' the full time for notice of motion had not been given but as on lv a dav or so was Involved the matter could be easily overcome by a unanimous vote to proceed with them. Mr A. E. Gibbons said the Old Boys Club had not- had time to discuss the question of the two senior teams and to determine what policy should he adopted at the annual meeting. Mr E. J. L. Whiting thought the meeting could waive the objection as practically the full time for notice of the motions had been given. In fact publicity had been given to the motions a fortnight ago and he deplored any efforts made to block them. \ resolution was then carried that the notices of motion be dealt with that evening. , ~ The chairman explained that as tne notices of motion were not in order anv resolution to have them dealt with that evening had to be unanimous As the resolution just carried had not been unanimous the meeting could not discuss the motions until the rules in this connection had been complied A. P. Nelson asked If the notice of motion affecting the junior advisory hoard could not be dealt with. The chairman ruled that all the notices of motion had to be treated alike and the discussion closed.
