MORRINSVILLE NOTES.

! INTERESTING ITEMS. | Flowers at School. The chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr A. Burns, when visiting Morrinsville to open the extension to the school, said the flowers in the grounds around the school looked very beautiful. He was very agreeably surprised to see such a lot of flowers. It shows what can be done by the co-operation of teachers, parents, and committee. The school should be the show place of the district. Electric Power Charges. Many complaints have been made to the Thames Valley Power Board ; about the high charges for motors on : farms since the introduction of meters. In his report the manager says a lot of investigation has been made by thestaff since meters have been installed for which no charge has been made. Tiie trouble appears, practically in every case, with the milking plant and not on the electric side. The advice given, has resulted in a more economical running of the plants and the main cause lias been the speed of the vacuum pump. Owing to such a lot of the staff's lime being taken up with these queries it- Is proposed to issue circulars setting out the main causes for any unnecessary high consumption of power by milking machines. The Show. Given fine weather the Morrinsville A. and P. Show, to be Held on Wednesday, promises to lie the best the club has ever held. Although the number of entries is much the same as last year, 621 and 630, there will be better competition in some of the principal classes. All the fat stock classes have filled well. In Friesians the entries have gone up from 32 to 57. The comparatively new events, the sheep dog trials and the tug-or-war, should also prove to be a success. A large amount of time has been spent by willing hands in putting the grounds in order and everything possible is'done for the convenience of exhibitors and the public. Cull Cows. Already some 2000 cull cows have been collected and sent out of the Morrinsville and Matamata districts. Electric Power. i There has been a large increase in the use of electric power for lighting and heating, as well as for milking machines in the Morrinsville district. Twentythree water-heaters, six electric ranges and 14 motors on farms have been connected during February. On Starkey’s Road good progress is being made with the 11,000volt extension. Eight miles of poles have already been erected, and the wire strung to the corner of Starkey’s Road. Church Services. At the Baptist Church on Sunday, special thanksgiving services were conducted by the Rev. G. N. Garlick. The church was beautifully decorated, and the display of fruit, vegetables and farm produce was very appropriate for the occasion. Appropriate hymns and anthems by the Sunday school choir were much appreciated by the j congregation. j The Methodist Church celebrated its harvest festival services on Sunday, services in the morning being conducted by Rev L. E. Sago. Ike anthems “I will feed My flock ant “Ml Thv works shall praise Thee”' were acautifully rendered by the choir. Large congregations attended morning and evening services Sports Meetings. Owing to steady rain all afternoon sports meetings on Saturday had to be abandoned. Personal. Mr David Coghill, who has been seriously ill for some time, had sufficiently recovered to attend the bowling green as a spectator of the match of the Taranaki bowlers against Morrinsville. Unfortunately he was not sufficiently recovered to take part in the play. Mr J. B. Thomas, of Morrinsville, was granted leave of absence by the Thames Valley Power Board at the last meeting, being away at Rotorua j for treatment on account of his health, j
