COUNTRY HALL DISTURBANCES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —On behalf of all country people I take the liberty of thanking the Hamilton Magistrate on the sensible manner in which he handled an offender this week for causing a riot at a country hall function some short time hack. Our only regret is that the culprit was not sent to gaol without the option of a fine. Almost every locality is visited at some time by these rattle-headed individuals, who think that Imcause they have had the smell of a whisky-bottle cork are privileged to paint all and sundry red. District halls are usualy erected by public-spirited farmers l'or the spiritual, educative, and social good of the community. They go to considerable expense and liability, together with loss of time. And to think that they and their friends are unable to meet for mutual benefit without the thought of some such pest of humanity giving the district a bad name is, as our Magistrate says, a curse. What is the management to do on these occasions? ‘Simply stand by to sec all kinds of antics carried on by these fools to the detriment of everybody's pleasure, nr attempt bo lire them out and cause a

free, fight? The only remedy is for the management to bring these fellows to Court, and now !hut. a precedent has been set up t am sure Ihc next offenders will get gaol. P llianlc your local police and Magistrate.—l am. etc., OUTSIDER.
