TE AROHA TOURNAMENT. SECOND DAY OF PLAY. WAIMAI AND CAMBRIDGE WIN. (By Telegraph—Special to Times.) TE AROHA, Tuesday. The Auckland Provincial Tournament was continued this morning in beautiful weather. The following teams qualified in the opening game for the Junior Cup:— Waimai C: Otway, Broughton, Upton and Seavill. Cambridge C: K. Butler, G. Porrilt, Nolan and Rose. In the first chukka, Broughton scored l'or Waimai and Nolan and Parrill for Cambridge. Broughton increased Waimai's score by one in ihe next, and Upton goaied in Ihe third. Fast and willing work was witnessed iii the fourth chukka, Seavill and Upton scoring. Porritt (Cambridge and Upton (Waimai) registered goals in the fifth chukka, but no scoring eventuated in the sixth and seventh, victory going to Waimai by 6 goals to 3. Mr R. Townsend was the umpire. Cambridge B Succeed. The next teams to line out were:— Matangi B : W. Phillips, G. Peake, L. Chitty and C. Byrant. Cambridge B: E. Brown, G. Vos- ’ per, R. Speakc, and Z. Garland, j The game throughout was fast and | keenly contested. Phillips was first 110 score. In the (bird chukka Speakc registered one and Garland two goals. I Very willing play characterised the fourth chukka, Vospcr scoring ’.vi e for Cambridge. In the following chukka Peake notched a goal and Vosper a further two. Play was continued on Monday when the Te Awamutu team played "Waimai B- The former was represented by D- Kay, H. Kay, L. Kay and A. Kay, and the latter by E- C. White, T- C. Wilson, L. Picot and C. Grace. From a spectator’s point of view the game was one of the most brilliant yet witnessed on the ground, and decidedly keen polo .was the order throughout. The first chukka opened with fas.t play, L. and D- Kay and Wilson and Picot putting in j-some exceedingly fine dashes and long shots. D- and 11. Kay scored for Te Awamutu and Picot for Waimai. In the second round Wilson registered a goal and A. Kay did likewise. Brilliant play was seen throughout the third chukka in which D. Kay scored- Splendid long hitting was the main order of the fourth, L. Kay scoring twice and bringing the Te Awamutu score to 6 to 2D. Kay registered a pretty goal in the fifth chukka, in which play was of an even character, and in the sixth the scorers were L. Kay for Te Awamutu and C. Grace for Waimai. In the final chukka Waimai played with exceptional dash, scores going to the credit of Picot and Grace. Te Awamutu won by 8 to 5. Mr E. Aislabic was an efficient pireWAIMAI A 4, V. WAIHOU A 3. Another fine game was played by Waimai A and Waihou A, victory going to the former by 4 to 3. ,A Wilson, D. Snodgrass, K. Henry, and It. Upton played for the winners, A. Wight, M. Burke, A- McNicol and T. A- Hines for Waihou. Waimai led off in dashing style, and in the first three minutes of play K. Henry scored. Brisk play followed in which T. Hines, A. McNicol and Snodgrass were conspicuous- McNicol led off the second chukka by registering a goal, and in the third D- Snodgrass scored from a long shot. Even play was seen in the next, chukka, and in the fifth Upton increased Waimai’s total. Very even play characterised the next spell, and in the seventh T. Hines was responsible for a very fine piece of play- A Per making a long running shot he rode his man off, returned the ball to centre and by a clever hit scored. This equalised matters and in the deciding Chukka luck was against Waihou for a hit by Snodgrass- cannoned off Hines’s stick and registered a win for Waimai. Mr Blennerlias-set was referee.
