A Queenslander, with £7OO in Australian notes in his pocket was walking London streets unable to buy a meal. He was included in the first sufferers from the refusal of the bank 6 to change Australian notes. Thirty thousand jute workers are idle near Calcutta as the resuL of a lightning strike threatening the stoppage of the whole of industry. The police dispersed a mob of 3000 workers, who attacked one mill with bricks following a rumour that a European mill assistant had assauhec some labourers.
