MISHAP TO PLANE

STRIKES POST AT OPOTIKI. PART OF WING CRUMPLED. ADe Davilana Gipsy Moth aeroplane, belonging lo Hamilton Airways Limited, arrived at Opoliki at 10 a.m. on Sunday. The machine made a good landing in Mr. J. Gordon's paddock just outside the borough. In the afternoon the aeroplane, piloted by Major G. A. C. Cowper, made one or two flights with a passenger. On the last flight Mr. J. Kerr, of Opoliki, was the passenger. When the machine landed it was caught by a sudden gust of wind, rose again, and twisted round. It then headed for a fence, and struck a post and llie lower part of the wing was slightly crumpled The machine then ran on, finally coming lo rest against a tree. Repairs were effected to both wings in the afternoon, and after doing some stunting over the town the pilot left for Hamilton.
