PLUNKET SHIELD MATCH. AUCKLAND v. WELLINGTON. FORMER MAKE 433. HUNT DISABLED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The final Plunket Shield match of the season between Auckland and Wellington on the Basin Reserve was continued to-day in fine sunny weather. Weir Brilliantly Caught. The Aucklanders now had the measure of the bowling and Weir and Badeley by brisk batting carried the total to 301, when Weir was brilliantly caught on the leg side by James. The third century had appeared after 4 hours 20 minutes’ play and Weir had been, at the wickets for nine minutes less than that lime. He thoroughly deserved the -hearty applause which greeted his splendid uphill battle for runs. Badeley started off a little scratchily, but later hit with more confidence. He was caught off a weak shot. Mathes-on assisted McCoy to add 100 to the total, both hitting out freely to somewhat tired howling. The fourth century went up after 325 minutes’ batting. McCoy and Matheson were pleasing the spectators wit'll their bright batting and smart running between the wickets. McCoy was dropped by Lowry at third slip off Massey when, his total was .03. Hunt, the last man, played three balls from Massey and then lifted Ross to Lowry fielding at silly, mid-on. Lowry had to jump high and was lucky to stop the ball, let alone catch it with one hand. McCoy and Hunt played out time, the score being 432 for nine wickets.

’ TO-DAY’S PLAY. AUCKLAND OUT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The game was resumed to-day in fine weather. With the addition of one (a no-ball from Henderson) to the overnight score, Auckland’s innings ended. Hunt was injured by a ball from Henderson in the second over, and retired hurt. The innings was thus closed for 433. Wellington at Wickets. Foley and Lowry opened the Wellington innings, Matheson being the first bowler. Off the fourth ball Foley was caught behind ihe wickets by Hunt without a run being scored. Hoilings was next to the wicket. Runs Slow. Runs came slowly, only three being scored in the first six overs. Neither of the batsmen was particularly comfortable facing Matheson, and with the last hall of Matiieson’s fifth over Lowry went the same way as Foley, being caught by Hunt.—7—2—6. Matheson had taken two wickets for five runs. Good Bowling. Ten was hoisted after 36 minutes’ play. Hoilings reached ten with a neat shot to leg boundary, and- was batting with much more confidence. Wensley, who had opened the bowling at the southern end, had now sent down nine overs, five of which were maidens, for ten runs.
