LEVEL CROSSING SMASH
ACCIDENT IN VICTORIA STREET. CAR CRASHES INTO ENGINE. An accident which might have boon attended by more serious consequences happened shortly after i. 30 p.m. to-day, when a car driven by I John Lyne, of Frankton, crashed Into the engino of a Morrinsvllle-bouud goods train . which was passing over the Victoria Street crossing. The force of tlic impact extensively damaged the front of the car, which was carried some distance before it was thrown clear of the engine. Fortunately the driver was not injured, although no was severely shaken. The cause of the accident is not known, although it is thought that the driver s visibility was obscured by another cur which was in front. The engine of the car was not damaged, and U was driven off under its own power.
