Settlers’ Picnic. The annual Richmond Downs settlers’ picnic was held as usual on New Year s Day. The local residents were present in good numbers, and there was a fair number of visitors from other districts. The gathering was a thorough success, a good sports programme being prepared. The' following rseidents officiated: Messrs J. H. McNaul, W. Mapp, GPaton, N. Homes, Scott and Simpson, Mesdames Watson, McNaul (patron), Scott, Homes and Martin. The picnic was held on Mr Scott’.s farm at the Mount. A successful dance was held in the schoolroom in the evening, Mr T. Watsoji officiating. Music was supplied by Miss I. Fausett,- Messrs Von Sturmer, Gattland Bros, and G. Martin. The prize-winners were: Boys, under 8, Hilton Livingstone 1, Bruce Hall 2; girls under 8, Gassy Simpson I', Betty Shaw 2; boys under 12, Roy Gallaglier 1, Raymond Livingstone 2; girls under 12', Joan Paton 1, Gassy Simpson 2; boys 12 to 16 years, Rex Wallace 1, Eddy Simpson 2; girls 12 to 16, Gladys HoLmes 1, Norma Holmes 2; single men, R- Clements 1, F. Zuill 2; young ladies’ race, Miss M. Wallace 1 ,; Miss M. Simpson 2; thread-the-needle, Mrs L. Kirk and Mr Stewart Wallace; girls’ thread-the-needle, Miss Gallagher and Miss Glow; potato race, Alf Dixon 1, A. Wallace 2; married men's race, N. Holmes 1, G- W. McNaul 2; stepping the chain, Mr Gallagher. The competitions were:—Bun-eating competition, Mervin Harris 1, Bob Harris 2; tug-of-war, married v. single, married 1; -married ladies’ blindfold wheelbarrow race, Mrs N. Holmes 1, Mrs J. Wallace 2.
