Excitement is increasing in Italy as the wedding day of the Crown Prince Humbert and Princess Marie Jose of Belgium approaches. All the great nations of the world are to he represented at the ceremony on Wednesday. The Duke of York was acclaimed on all hands to-day as he rode in state to the Palace to greet the King and Queen of Italy and the King and Queen of the Belgians on behalf of King George and Queen Mary. Subsequently the Duke attended a brilliant reception in the Quirinal, where the assembled members of Royal families received homage from Signor Mussolini, the members of the Cabinet, Ambassadors, Senators and Deputies. The Duke had a long chat with Signor Mussolini.

The routes taken by the processions were all densely lined with cheering people. Every part of the city was illuminated in the evening. The most piquant topic is the presence in Rome of King Boris of Bulgaria. This has aroused speculations as to his prospective engagement—hitherto always denied—to Princess Giovanna, third daughter of the King and Queen of Italy.

LONDON, Jan. 6. The Duke of York, who is to represent King George at the wedding on Wednesday of Princess Marie Jose of Belgium to the Crown Prince Humbert of Italy, arrived in Rome last evening. He was accompanied by Admirai Brooke.

The Duke was met at the railway station by the Duke of Spoleto and Sir Ronald Graham, British Ambassador to Italy, also by the entire staff of the British Embassy. After greetings had been exchanged His Royal Highness drove to the Embassy, where lie will stay during his short visit to Rome. To-day the Duke and other Royal guests were out shooting over King Victor Emmanuel’s estate near Ostia.
