ELSIE WALKER CASE.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The Hon. T- M, W, ford will shortly leave for England to assume the position of High Commissioner. In the meantime the question of the reopening of the inquest into the death of the ill-fated girl Elsie Walker must remain in abeyance- It is, however, much to be hoped that Mr Wilford’s successor will be more amenable to public opinion and adopt the course which all interested in the administration of justice must favour. Mr Wilford has taken up an impossible attitude; Mr Cooney’s challenge to the Minister to prosecute Mrs Thomason for blackmail emphasises the fact- I think the position as it now stands must be unique in history. Surely something will yet be done.—l am, etc., CLODIA.
