The unmistakable sighing note of a shining -cuckoo was heard one night recently at about 10.35 o’clock as the bird was making its way overhead iji the vicinity of the Mastcrton Post OiTTce, says an exchange. The shining cuckoo is a migratory bird, which, arrives in New Zealand in the spring from the north-eastern parts of Australia and returns again in the autumn. It appears as if the bird migrates during the night.
