DAY BY DAY.

To-morrow the clocks will again be altered for the period Coming of “Summer Time," of and people will soon Summer Time, be delighting in the

extra half-hour of sunshine. Despite an occasional outburst from an individual or an organisation there is little real antagonism to the measure, the compromise in advancing the clocks by half an hour instead of the hour originally proposed having quietened opposing factions and brought about an amicable settlement of the difficulty. Many farmers, having discovered that the extra halfhour, while in some cases increasing their labours, has its compensations, have dropped their opposition, while the vast majority of dwellers in the towns have never had any doubt as to the benefits derived from the measure. The advantage from a health point of view, in encouraging people to spend more time in the open air, cannot be over-estimated, while the extra halfhour also allows increased facilities for all branches of sport. It seems that "Summer Time" has come to stay in New Zealand, as in other parts of the world.
