THE TROTTING FIXTURE

WAIKATO CLUB’S MEETING

HORSES AT CLAUDELANDS. NOTES AND COMMENTS. Everything is set fair for ihc spring fixture of the Waikato Trolling Blub, which will be held al Claudelands tomorrow. With a splendid list of acceptances, the public can look forv-ard to an excellent day's sport at local headquarters. The executive of the club, with Mr H. W. Burch (president) in control, has left no stone unturned to ensure the success of the opening gathering of the season and, with fine weather to-morrow, their anticipations will be realised to the fullest measure that their enthusiastic endeavours warrant.

Lindbergh and Pearl Logan, members of C. S. Donald’s team at Belfast, arrived this morning. This South Island pair look in good order and will come in for a lot of favour tomorrow. Lindbergh may lie the actual first choice lor the Mark Memorial, while Pearl Logan, who claims a double engagement later in the day will not be overlooked. Tire southern visitors were only paced this morning as tlie course proper was not available.

My Thorpe, the aged gelding by Our Thorpe front a King George rnare, is a pacer of the solid type. With. J. T. Paul to guide him in the Frankton Handicap to-morrow, My Thorpe should go well off the limit.

Gold Cast is a locally prepared candidate in the Stewards Handicap to-morrow, whose prospects ntusL not he despised. The veteran gelding by Gold Bell —Casling can turn on the speed and, off the front in to-morrow’s mile he will keep them busy to gather him in.

According to the track reports, Innnett the Great has not been showing sufficient speed in her work at Alexandra Park to make up the big leeway required in the Introductory Handicap. Even track form is not always the last word, however.

Peter Lloyd is now trained at Ngaruawahia. The Peterwah —Mahunga gelding is on 24 yards in the Frankton Handicap, hut that would not be a definite bar to progress if his condition is to the required pitch.

Regret does not look as solid as she was when last raced. The Wild Cry —-Castaway mare has a double engagement to-morrow, but she will surprise the local track watchers if she proves equal to the occasion.

Explosion lias not been much in the limelight of recent times. A. J. Julian has brought the chestnut south for the slow two-miie event for pacers 10-rnorrow. The Nelson Bingen—Ena Bell chestnut, when seen out at Claudelands to-day, gave the impression that he had done some work of recent times and he may be a nuisance to-morrow before the Claudelands Handicap is terminated.

Carmel, who was withdrawn from the Mark Memorial Handicap oil Wednesday morning, knocked one of bis legs. Although the injury is not considered serious, it was not deemed desirable to race the chestnut to-mor-row. Another of J. Shaw's team who has also dropped -out of his local engagement is Warspite, who was in the Stewards’ Handicap and who had a following for the sprint event. Warspite’s withdrawal was the outcome of the Man-a’--War gelding contracting a Bold.

One off the front in the “second leg," the Stewards' Handicap, to-mor-row is Nclla Dillon, whom ownertrainer T. M. Hohcrtson has on lhc scene in good order. The Author Dillon—xc 1 i Pointer marc gave evidence last season Hint she could muster up pace on the local track and it will not surprise In find her prominent in the mile event, to-morrow.

There would he no more popular happening Ilian lo have Wild Nut leading a field home. The Nut Ansel —Wild Nell gelding, who is now up in the veteran stage, is to make another attempt in Ilie President's Handicap to-morrow, to prove lhat lie is not yet a hack number. It seems safe to prophesy that ihe price will be liberal if Wild Nut succeeds In being first past the post.

First Flight, who is in the Frankton Handicap to-morrow, is in the Great Northern Derby. The Blue Mountain King—Guiding Star filly will be aided in her preparation for the classic by her run to-morrow, whatever the outcome of that may be. If she leaves tno mark promptly, First Flight is likely to be in at the reckoning on the coming occasion.

As Mountain Dell is being forecasted as one with rosy prospects in the big event to-morrow, there is reason for investors giving increased attention to Limosa. At Alexandra Park on August 31 the local candidate was second lo Mountain Dell, heating a useful field as readily as the latter disposed of her. Limosa is listed for two races to-morrow- —on the back mark of 72 yards in the Frankton Handicap, and on 48 yards in the Claudelands Handicap. The sefcond up may suit best.

Appeal has presented some fair performances in the past and the expectations arc that the Tc Awarnutu candidate will be heard from again during the new season. The Ghoai —Plaintiff gelding will parade at Claudelands to-morrow. In the Hamilton Handicap he is lo form one of the trio on the limit, while in the President's Handicap lie is hack one on the adjustment. It would not surprise to find Appeal acting creditably in the company he will meet to-morrow.

Arachne, who reached the scene today with ihe members of J. Shaw's team is in the Claudelands and the Visitors’ Handicaps to-morrow. Her success in the Hawke's Bay Cup last season indicates that Hie two miles of the Claudelands Handicap would not be beyond her. Off 24 yards in the Visitors’ Handicap, Ihe Logan Pointer marc would only require a decent run to be throwing out Ihc danger signal at the finish of the mile and a quarter.

Outside the fancied division, Tony Victor is the candidate in the Mark Memorial who is most freely mentioned il' Mountain Dell, Lindbergh and Warplane are to get their quietus. There is every reason for giving a measure of weight to the contention as Tony Victor -can produce a determined burst of speed and while he requires nurturing on a two-mile journey the Antonio gelding is in the right hands for getting the best results.

Bell Dial, the sole representative of G. A. Williams’ Wellsford stable listed for the local meeting, is an acceptor in three events. There was an instance of a horse appearing that often on the local track last season and coming home at his final appearance, it appears to be the opinion among those who understand their book of trotting that Bell Dial’s best hopes are in the unhoppled event, the Claudelands Handicap, the middle item of the three for which she is carded to-morrow.

At Te Aroha last season Conder Belle displayed form worthy of notice. This member of J. Edwards’ team at Te Awamutu is on the limit in tho Frankton and the President’s Handicap to-morrow. In the latter, the unhoppled event, the Golconda—Bell Gray gelding may prove the better proposition. He is a fairly solid customer when keyed up tfor tha jnh. .

Motumaoho, who is on the front of the Introductory Handicap to-morrow is spoken of as a novice who is on the improve. The Peter Moko —Lady Heiress chestnut, who hails from Ngahinapouri, made a very favourable impression in her only start last season.

A candidate who stepped old boldly this morning on the inner grass at Claudelands was Gold Sovereign. Although this member of T. Roe’s team is a good way back in the Hamilton Handicap to-morrow the Gold Bell Black Queen gelding can be relied on to do it from the word go and that counts a lot.

Wild Downs, with his owner-trainer having the reins, was given some fast work on the inside grass at Claudelands this morning. The Wildwood jnr.—Elsie Downs gelding occasionallyleft his feet when the pressure was right on, but showed a useful turn of speed for bis class., if he could lie got to keep at it evenly all the way in the Introductory he would have some prospect off the front.

Kolmar lias given evidence that he likes the sting out of the ground. The Nelson Bingen gelding has come iroin Ilawera to fulfil his engagements at the local meeting, where he figures on the limit in the Hamilton Handicap and on 24 yards in the President's Handicap later in the day. The way in which lie iias hit out when sent along the past couple of mornings at Claudelands indicates that lhe southerner will be there or thereabouts to-morrow.

Etta Coie has been trotting well at Alexandra Park when trainer Gilchrist has required her to show somewhere near her best. The Pcterwah —LadyCole chestnut is in the Hamilton, and the President's Handicaps to-morrow. As she has indicated that a soft track is not, to be her best liking, the measure of support extended to Etta Cole at the local meeting will depend on how the surface acts when it lias been tested to-morrow.
