BISHOP OF WAIAPU.
ARCHDEACON WILLIAMS CHOSEN. (By Telegraph.—-Press Association,) NAPIER, Thursday. Venerable Archdeacon Herbert Williams was to-night unanimously elected by a special synod of the Waiapu Diocese as bishop to succeed Bishop Sedgwick, whose resignation takes effect on December 31. Archdeacon Williams is the third member of his family to hold that office. His grandfather, the Right Rev. William Williams, was the first Bishop of Waiapu, and held office until he died in 1876 The archdeacon's father, the Right Rev. William Leonard Williams, was Bishop of Waiapu r ~ from 1894.
Archdeacon Williams was born in 1860. He was vice-principal of the Native Theological College, Gisborne, from 1888 to 1894, and for the next five years was principal of the college, in 1907 he was appointed archdeacon Of Waiapu. He married in 1888.
