A FLOOD OF OIL.
MISHAP ON A STEAMER. PASSENGERS’ HEAVY LOSSES. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.', (Australian press Assn.—United Service.; COLOMBO, Aug. 31. The 80 passengers on board the P. and 0. liner Baradine, 13,144 lons, on route to Australia, suffered loss last evening, when she was being refuelled. The oil flooded the deck and many of the cabins. The passengers were brought ashore and taken to hotels. They were distressed because they were unable to save their personal belongings. One passenger estimated his loss at £125. The majority of the adult passengers were ashore at Colombo at the time of the accident. The native crew worked all night, and it is alleged that they were guilty of pilfering.
