LAKE ROAD.

Surprise Party. A very pleasant evening In’ the nature of a surprise party was tendered Miss Grace Bourne on her corn-ing-of-age at tho residence of her parents, Mr and .Mrs R. W. Bourne, of Lake Road. 'There was a large gathering of friends, and a most enjoyable evening was spent in dancing, playing games and euchre. The prizes for euchre were won by Mrs White' (ladies), and Mr J. Rudd (men). r l’he rooms were beautifully decorated, and the supper table was tastefully decorated with flowers and a beautiful cake in honour of the occasion. Several toasts were honoured and Mr C. North, in a neat little speech, asked Miss Bourne to accept a beautiful toilet set as a gift from her many friends. He wished her success and prosperity. Mr P. Bourne, uncle of the guest of honour, suitably responded. , “For They are Jolly Good Fellows," and the singing of “Auld Lang Sync” terminated a pleasant evening.

Benefit Dance. A dance was held In tho Lake View Public -Hall, the proceeds being in aid of the Earthquake Relief Fund. Owing to the number of counter attractions in the surrounding districts it was not as successful as had been hoped. Splendid music was supplied by the Te Awamutu Orchestra. All who helped are heartily thanked for their generosity. Supper was served by the ladies.
