CAMBRIDGE NEWS.

PRESBYTERIAN LADIES’ GUILD. Another successful social organised by the Ladies' Guild of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Cambridge, was held in the Peace Memorial Hall. In the past the ladies of the congregation used to meet each week to sew and make various articles for sale at the stalls in conjunction with the annual daffodil show. This method of raising funds for the churcli has now been considered too much of a burden on a few. In lieu of this system a series of congregational socials were arranged during the winter months, to which members are invited to attend and contribute toward the fund. The new system has proved highly satisfactory and the monthly gatherings have done much to weld the bond of fellowship among the congregation.

Visit of Presbytery.

Three representatives of the Waikato Presbytery, Rev. J. Haslop (Hamilton East), Rev. Kedglev (Otorohanga) and Rev. L. M. Rogers (Frankton Junction) who had met the elders and managers during the afternoon, were present at the social and addressed the gathering. Each congratulated the minister (Rev. J. Hay) and the congregation on the splendid progress made during the past years.

Musical and elocutionary items were rendered during the evening and the function concluded with a dainty supper provided by the ladies of the Guild. The following programme was rendered: Selections by the Orphans’ Orchestra; song, Mr. F. Norman; recitation, Mr. E. B. Kemsley; songs, Miss M. Sands; song, Rev. llaslop.

ANNUAL BALL. The Cambridge Rugby Union held its annual ball on Friday night, the function being an unqualified success. There were about 300 present. The supper room and stage were beautifully decorated with spring flowers, and blue and white streamers, representing the union’s colours, were suspended overhead. Mr. T. S. Cray (president of the union) in presenting the trophies won by the various clubs during the season, congratulated the union on the very successful season just past. He also wished to thank the public for its splendid support of the matches. .Both from a playing and a financial point of view, said Mr. Gray, the season has been the most successful for the past five years.
