THIS YEAR’S PLANS IN SYDNEY. TO START OCTOBER 0. “Help your.self to health,” is the slogan for Health Week, which is to lie observed in Sydney from October 6 to October 1 2. That was decided at a meeting last week, when representatives of the organisations connected with social and health welfare formulated a programme for the year. The metropolitan medical officer, Dr. Purdy, said Sydney was to have a ‘‘clean up, paint up, keep it up week. The clergy would probably co-operate, by special references to health in their Sunday sermons, on October 0. Special services at the Lyceum and talks in the Domain might also be arranged. Radio talks, special slides at cinemas, luncheon addresses, and talks at factories and clubs will also be given, together with window displays. . , It was pointed out that Health Week was first commenced in England in 11)12, under the patronage of the King and Ouecn, and was inaugurated at Sydney'in 1922, when the Health Week executives had the co-operation of the United Block Associations. ’With the co-operation of the then Lord Mayor, Aid. W. P. MeElhone, Sydney had such a clean up that the plague had been kept down with only eight deaths. There had not been one case since June, 192 i.
