FANCY DRESS DANCE
AT TE AKAU. A very successful plain and fancy dress dance was held in the Te Akau Hall. There was a large attendance. The novelty dances added greatly to the interest of the evening. The winners were: Spot waltz, Mrs McGuire and T. Morton; Monte Carlo, Miss M. Henry and D. Snodgrass. The prizes for the fancy costumes were as follows:—Best lady's fancy costume, Miss F. Richards as a Persian Dancer; lady’s most original, Miss E. Carter (Hawaiian Girl); best man’s fancy, Mr A. Connew (Eastern) ; best man’s original, Mr F. Philburn (Devil).
Others in fancy dress were: Mesdames Blomfield, Garden Wall; Johs, Night; Day, Maori robe; Smith, Nurse; Misses M. Henry, Gold-tipped Cigarette; G. Blomfield, Queen of the Harem; I. Stewart, Danger Signals; D. Henry, Three Arts Club; P. Philburn, Ladybird; G. Philburn, Queen of Clubs; W. Picken, Seashore; D. Wilson, Pauk's Daughter; J. Seavill, Eastern Lady; M. Parker, Plain Jane; N. Rapson, Masked Pierrette; Messrs D. Seavill, Pirate; R. Martin, Blotting Paper; S. Picken, Parson; J. Seavill, Back-to-Front; R. Philburn, Jester; G. Seavill, Pierrot; R. Heslop, Black and White Whisky; J. Parker, Mexican Cowboy; T. Richards, Indian Prince. Others present were: Mesdames McGuire, lavender taffeta, silk embroidered overdress; Henry, black crepe de chine and shoulder posy; It. Seavill, flame embroidered georgette and black shawl; Philburn, mauve repp; C. Mellsop, pale green net over satin, and shoulder posy; Misses Abott (Ngaruawahia), green georgette; King (Ngaruawahia), pink satin; M.
