RUGBY FOOTBALL

VISIT FROM HAWKE’S BAY. AT HAMILTON ON WEDNESDAY. WAIKATO SIDE CHOSEN. On Wednesday next at Rugby Park, Hamilton, a representative Rugby match will be played by Waikato against the touring Hawke’s .Bay team. When Waikato met Hawke’s Bay at Hastings last month a game of very sparkling football resulted in a draw, 1 1 points each. The coming meeting between the teams is therefore likely to create very marked interest. The following team has been selected by Mr. T. A. Cooper to represent Waikato: Full-back: Skeet. Three-quarters: W. Allen, R. Kemp, M. Anderson. Five-eighths: P. Quin, J. R. .Fitzgerald. Half-back: Gllllng. Rover: Story. Front row: Courtney (captain), Ensor. Lock: Fleming. Supports: A. Cameron, W. Bayly. Back row: W. Bourke, C. Cameron. Mr S. A. Mannering, of Hamilton, will be referee. PARNELL “B” v. CAMBRIDGE. A friendly senior match was played at Cambridge on Saturday between the Parnell “B" team and the Cambridge representative XV. The local team, whose forwards were much heavier than the visitors, had things pretty well alt their own way and won comfortably by 12 points to nil. Although there were frequent cold showers, a large number of spectators watched the game. The play was not particularly interesting, and the sodden nature of the field did not improve matters. Parnell kicked off, and opening up, nicely were soon in the locals’ territory. The visiting backs set up a lively attack, and an early score seemed inevitable, until T. Dagg intercepted a pass and putting the ball at his toe took play to half-way. From a lineout Cambridge gained furthfer ground. A scrum went down near the Parnell line, l'rorn which Packman cleared with a fine kick into touch at the 2. r >. The bail had become heavy and neither side seemed to be putting the best into the game. The visitors were awarded a free kick in a handy position. Packman made a good attempt at goal but the ball just fell short of the bar. Play was taken from one end of the field to the other in quick stiecession, and Parnell were attacking when the change-over sounded. On resuming the local Learn took command of the game, the visitors not being able to stay the attack of the fast- opposing forwards. From a scrum C. Robinson got across and registered the first try for Cambridge. Byrne’s attempt at goal was unsuccessful. There was no further score and the spell ended Cambridge 3, Parnell 0.

There was no further score in the third quarter, but the ball seldom crossed into the locals’ territory. In the last quarter Byrne kicked a neat goal from his mark, and N. Morse and McDonell each scored a try for the locals, neither of which was converted. The game ended with the score:

Cambridge 12 Parnell 0 Mr. A. R. Thomas was referee,
