OTOROHANGA.

DISTRICT HAPPENINGS. (Our Resident Representative.) Signs of Spring. Tree-planting activities . proceed apace throughout this district. A generous amount of hedge planting is also a phase of rural industry. General. Cases of scarlet fever have been rather prevalent in this territory during the past week, and a few children are inmates of the isolation ward at the Waikato Hospital. The Presbyterian Ladles’ Guild held a productive "bring and buy" stall in Tunoro Street, Olorohanga. As the whole of the produce and the home confections were donated by energetic church workers, the proceeds considerably augmented the funds of the guud. • A successful and very enjoyable euchre and dance social was held in the Kio Kio Hall in aid of the hall piano fund. There was a large attendance of district folk, and visitors were present from Te Aw'amutu, Otorohanga, Te Kuiti and Kihikihi. Soldiers’ Reunion. A reunion of returned men was held at Mangapeehi. The hall was tastefully decorated and warmed. The intervals between the toasts and replies were pleasantly spent in song, story, music and wartime reminiscences. The enthusiastic proceedings terminated with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne." Rugby. Two Rugby contests on the Otorohanga Football Grounds provided interesting sport for a large number of spectators. Otewa and Otorohanga senior packs took the Held under the direction of Mr George Eassey. A sterling game resulted in a victory for Otewa by 14 to 12. Honikiwi and Otorohanga next stepped on to the convincing ground, with j Mr V. L. Fairbrother as referee. j The town team proved to be too fast and hefty for their country rivals, and j the latter were unable to put up any j score, as against the 14 registered by Otorohanga. Local Music Examination Successes. Otorohanga and district pupils were exceptionally successful at the Trinity College of Music examinations conducted by Mr Egerton Lowe, F.T.C.L., at Hamilton.
