The Island steamer Makambo arrived at Sydney to-day in completion of a round trip to the New Hebrides. During the voyage cyclonic weather caused the bunkers to run out and horse boxes and other fittings were broken up, the wood being fed to the boilers. Timber was also taken from the decks. Heavy rain has fallen in New. South Wales continuously for many hours. The rivers in the northern districts and the feeders of the Clarence River are rising. Big’seas are running outside Sydney Harbour. A severe cyclone has developed over the Tasman Sea and a southerly to- south-easterly gale Is expected over the western half of the Tasman. Flood warnings have been issued lo settlers on the north coast of New South Walds. BRISBANE, .Tune A Swedish steamer, the Roxen, reported late last night that she had been caught in a cyclone off the coast of Queensland. Her position was described as dangerous. The shin is en route from Brisbane to Sydney. She carries a heavy deck cargo of timber. Later messages stated that no assistance was wanted as the weather was moderating.

The Roxen is a steel screw steamer of 4528 tons. She was built in 1921 at Gothenburg, and is owned by the Rederiaktieb Transatlantic Compaiy. Her port of registry Is Gothenburg.
