WITH THE HOUNDS.
MEET AT MATANGI. A FIXE DAY’S SPORT. Despite the unfavourable weather a field of about 50 or 60 riders turned out on Saturday for the hunt at “Wartle,” the home of Mrs Oliver. After being enterlained at morning tea, hounds, under Ihc control of Messrs N'ed Brown and G. Peake, threw off on the property of Mr G. Betlley. A hare was soon found, but a heavy shower spoiled the scent. "When the .rain ceased another hare was put up and gave a good run over the properties of Messrs Bettley and Webster, being finally killed in the gully in Humphries. Another hare was soon started and gave a clinking run across Messrs Webster s and Precce's properties before hounds checked in Bcttlcy’s. A first hare got up and look hounds across country before being lost on Coventry's farm, traversing the properties of Bettley, Webster, Precce and Bovlll. This is the first occasion on which hounds had hunted over this country—at least in the memory of the present followers, which goes back about 25 years—and members were enthusiastic at being allowed to hunt over such a fine stretch of ground. Among those following were visitors from Te Awamutu, Cambridge and Morrlnsville, while a large number from all over Waikato were present in cars.
At the conclusion Mrs Oliver entertained the field and visitors to afternoon tea at “Wartle.’’
