TOWN AND FARM.
better understanding. A ROTARIAN’S APPEAL. IMPORTANCE OF PRODUCERS. An appeal to Rotarians to work for a better understanding between townspeople and primary producers was made by Mr F. C. House, president of the Hamilton Rotary Club, at the club meeting- ~ , , ~ He stressed the fact that, though the whole country was dependent on the primary producers, these comprised only 20 to 25 per cent, of the total population, and they had only a minority representation in the councils of the nation. Unless the business and profesional men could see national questions from the primary producers’ point of view, the interests of the country were not likely to be well served. Mr House said he had been Impressed by recent articles in the Waikato Times stressing the claims of farmers. The Rotary movement aimed to act as an ambassador of goodwill. He and his directors had considered ways and means of establishing contacts with the accredited representatives of the farmers. Mr House also urged on members that Rotary should aim at deeds rather than professions and should avoid platitudes !
