EARTHQUAKE RELIEF.

HAMILTON AND DISTRICT. DONATIONS TO DATE. TOTAL NOW REACHES £953 15s 7d. 'A fund for the relief of sufferers in the earthquake catastrophe has been opened in Hamilton. Donations forwarded either to the Waikato Times Office or to the Borough Council Chambers will he acknowledged in this column daily. Receipt of the following donations Js notified:

THE AUCKLAND FUNDS. AUCKLAND, Monday. The Mayor’s fund has reached £4774 18s, and the Herald/ fund £6319 18s. £62 FROM FOOTBALL MATCH. AUCKLAND, Saturday. • The collections taken at the King’sGrammar Rugby football match at Mlddlemore this afterroon in aid of the earthquake relief fund amounted to £62 17s lid. DANNEVIRKE’S GOOD RESPONSE. DANNEVIRKE, Saturday. The Evening News to-day, on behalf of its subscribers, wired £IOO to the Mayor of Westport for the immediate relief of ICaramea settlers. This amount is in addition to £SO transmitted previously by the News to the Mayor of Nelson for the refugees in that town. The Borough Council last night voted £2O to the relief fund. Dannevirke contributions to date are as follows: —Evening News list, £240; Mayor*S fund, £142; total, £382. SEVERAL QUAKES YESTERDAY. HEAVY FALL OF SNOW. WESTPORT, Sunday. After a fairly quiet Saturday earthquakes made their presence unpleasantly felt on numerous occasions to-day. The biggest and most prolonged shake occurred at 3.30 a.m. While the people face the shakes bravely through the day, they still find those at night very uncanny and nerve-racking. A visit to the cemetery shows that the stones of many beautiful memorials have crashed over or been displaced. Damage has also oocurred to the concrete bases and kerbings. The memorials of many old-time prominent citizens are affected. GREYMOUTH, Sunday. Three earthquakes have been experienced at Greymouth since midnight. One oocurred at about 3 a.m. and was the most severe. Another was felt at 5 a.m. and the third at 11.53 a.m. There has been a heavy fall of snow In the baok oountry during the past two days. BYMPATHY FROM ROTARY. MESSAGES FROM AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Sir Alexander Roberts, District Governor of Rotary in New Zealand, has received the following cablegrams conveying sympathy with sufferers by the recent earthquake:— From Mr F. Birks, district Governor of Rotary in Australia:—‘‘This district wishes to convey sincere sympathy to sufferers from the earthquake.” From the president of the Hobart Rotary Club: —"Passed unanimous resolution of sincere sympathy with sufferers from the recent disaster In the Dominion.” GOVERNMENT ATTACKED.

Holland) In the House of Representatives said that he wholly disagreed with the newspaper statements charging the Government with neglect so far as the West Coast was concerned. Every appeal that had been made to the Government had been answered promptly. There had been no question, and no hesitation, and no saying, “We can't llnd the money.” In the face of a great calamity the Government had found (he money. A Labour Member: "They rose to the occasion.” Mr Holland agreed that this was the case. He mentioned at a later stage in his speech that he was not sure that £1,000;000 would not bean under-estimate of the amount that would be required to restore the devastated areas.
