KAIPAKI DEFAULT TO OOLTB. OLD BOYS ACCOUNT FOR UNITED. The Waikato Hockey Association ' championship series.were continued at Steele Park ; on Saturday afternoon, , before a good gallery of spectators. Playing conditions were not by any means of the best, but Old Boys and United provided a spirited exhibition of the game. The inability of Kalpaki to field a team gave the first Hxture to Colts. OLD BOYS v. UNITED. The teams fielded as follows: Old Boys.—Warrington, Allen, Hume Luxton, Bluck, Wlllmott, Hobbs/ Hammond, Craig McLachlan, Powdrill. United.—Goodwin, Butler, Rogers, , Thomas, Conradi, Allsop, Cummings, Davies, Snellgrove. Following the commencement of play the Old Boys’ forwards got the ball away, and, supported by the backs, forced the play into United territory, but the opposition w'ere ready, and after a short scrimmage, repulsed the invaders. A period of midfield play followed, in which Wilmoll , and Powdrill did good work for Old Boys, while Allsop and , Cummings / were prominent among United. A United attack saw the Reds in a dangerous position, and a 1 smart bit of ! stickwork enabled Allsop to draw first blood for United. clever combined movement relieved the situation, and,, with the forwards working together, the ball was carried back to Old Boys’ territory, where a succession of hard shots to the goal kept Warrington busy for a time. Allen hooked the ball out of the rough, and a nicely placed shot to the centre gave the Old Boys’ pack an opportunity which they were not slow to follow up. The forwards combined in a penetrating attack that gained much ground, and saw Thomas, United’s goalie, working hard, but the ball went out of play, and saved the situat ion. Mid-field play followed for a time, until Old Boys pniaganee o’gor time, until Old Boys again penetrated United’s territory, where a well placed shot from Powdrill’s slick found the, corner of the net, to equalise the scores. Old Boys 1 United 1 United strove hard to add further lo their total, and for a time forced !lie play around the opposition’s circle, until a clearance was effected by Allen, who sent the play to the opposite end, where a hard shot narrowly missed. For a time the game moved up and down the field in a succession of attacks and counters, and, although the ground was too slippery for any fast play, some tricky stickwork was seen on both sides. Old Boys had the advantage territorially for some time, and Thomas, United’s goalie, was the target for many hard shots, but he gave a good account of himself, and saved every time. A United rally saw the scene of activities return to midfield, but Old Boys countered, and a determined attack paved the way for a successful effort by Hobbs, making the score — . Old Boys 2 United 1 Half-time came soon after with no change in the score. The Second Half, The resumption of play saw McLachlan gain possession, and a solo effort by him, carried the game right to United’s goal-mouth, but the ball went out of play. At this stage the game became fast and furious, moving quickly up and down the field, in spite of the treacherous ground underfoot. Old Boys b United • 2 After a short period of mid-field play United combined in a manoeuvre which carried the ball into Old Boys’ area, where a sharp tussle ensued around the goal. A clearance was effected, and the Reds followed up, to carry the game into the opposition’s half, where Craig sent in a shot that narrowly missed. The opposition rallied, and once again entered Old Boys’ half, but the defence was too strong and a counter-attack overwhelmed the invaders. From a penalty corner United failed to register, and the Reds attacked strongly. United’s backs were kept constantly busy. Allen fell, and was unable to rise. On examination he was found to be suffering from cramp. After treatment he was able to resume. Old Boys again attacked, and pressed around United’s goal. Several shots were saved by Thomas, until Craig netted the ball with a shot that gave the goalie no chance, making the score— Old Boys 6 United 2 Once again Old Boys entered United territory, but the defenders rallied, ind a combined attack saw play moved to Old Boys half. From a scrimmage around the goal Conradi shot to score the final goal of the game, making the scores —- Old Boys 6 United 3 The final whistle sounded soon after. , „ Messrs Tait and McCaw had control of the game.

JUNIOR PLAYER INJURED. . In the game between High School and Baptist a School player, Leech, sustained injuries to his shoulder. No medical aid was available on the field, so the injured player was conveyed to his home, where he was found to be suffering from a fractured bone in the shoulder. HAMILTON REPRESENTATIVES.
