PATERANGI.

School Committee, The recently elected school committee, assisted by the pupils and teachers of the local school have been doing good work in the school grounds. The noxious weeds along the road frontage have been cut and burnt, the play-ground has been levelled and re-sown in grass. A new basketball court and a football ground have been laid out. Altogether the school grounds present a most tidy appearance. Church. There was a large congregation of children and parents at the children’s service held in the local Presbyterian Church, when Mr 11. Dixon, of Pirongia, preached. Hockey. A number of Paterangi girls played hockey in Te Awamutu last Saturday, when the Waipa representative team to play in Auckland during Country Week was picked. Those included in tiie team are Misses 11. Spiers, L. Churney, G. Bell, P. Sieet, M. Macky, K. MacKy and M. Norton. The men’s representative team of the Waipa Association to contest in the White Horse Cup competition was also selected last week. The following were selected from Paterangi team—Messrs L. Karl, L. Spiers, R. Spiers, G. Finch, S. Macky, R. Beil and B. Spiers. There was a large attendance of Paterangi hockey players at the Te Awamutu hockey girls’ dance.

The Hall. Owing to the bad weather work at the hall has been delayed, but it is hoped that the work will be completed in another two weeks. Personal. Mrs Anderson, of Wanganui, is staying with her sister, Mrs T. Shaw. Miss A. Pollock, of Pukekohe, is the guest of Mrs J. Karl. Mr and Mrs A. Whyte are visiting Auckland. Mr P. Spiers, of Wellington, is spending his annual holidays at his homo in Paterangi. Miss R. Kay and Mr A. Kay were the guests of Mrs W. Germann during the week-end. The many friends of Mr S. C. Macky will be pleased to hear that he is home again and making good progress. Bereavement. General regret was felt at the announcement of, the death of Mrs L. D. Mills, which occurred suddenly in the Waikato Hospital. Mrs Mills and her husband resided in Poro-o-tarao, King Country, but her girlhood was spent in Paterangi. She was the sixth daughter of Mr C. Jephson, and sister of Mrs F. Ryburn. Her . quiet, loving and generous. nature endeared her to aii. - - .. - ,
