WAIKATO WINTER SHOW

SUNDAY SCHOOL SECTION. SCHEME FOR ADVANCEMENT. CONCERT TO RAISE FUNDS. Every available ®ch of accommodation was requisitioned to seat the large crowd of parents, pupils, and others interested in Sunday school work, at the concert organised by the combined Sunday Schools of Hamilton, held in the Winter Show Concert Hall last night. Never before has such a successful production been staged by Sunday Schools in Hamilton, and those responsible must surely be gratified. The object which inspired the organisation of the concert was that of obtaining funds for the advancement of the Sunday Schools’ 'exhibit of the Winter Show. 'Mr Pearson, the president of the local Sunday Schools’ Union, said that, the exhibit was first established some, five years ago, and since its inception had progressed considerably. This progress had inspired the desire for further advancement, and greater support, arid the scheme had far-reaching possibilities, in that it encouraged greater interest in missions, reminding young and old that there are men in far distant corners of tlie earth, and in heathen lands nearer home, doing pioneer work in the cause of religion. Finance was required to extend the scope of the Sunday School section in the Winter Show, and, because it would be unfair to call on the Sunday Schools for assistance in this matter, owing to the facl v that they have their own financial problems, the concert was organised. It was rather a unique undertaking, in that it had never before been attempted in Hamilton, but, as this concert was sucli a success, others would lie held in the future. He thanked all those who had assisted in any way in the production of the concert, and also mentioned that all who are willing to assist with the Winter Show exhibit are asked to attend a meeting in the Y.M.C.A. next Monday, at 7 p.m., to discuss the arrangements During the Winter Show week there is a possibility that a great mass meeting of Sunday School children will be held in the Motor Olympia on Sunday, June 1, but nothing definite has yet been decided.

The entertainment provided by the children was muck enjoyed, and every item was warmly applauded. Several dialogues by the girls of various Sunday Schools were very diverting and cleverly acted. The recitations of several small girls were remarkably well rendered, while a number of songs and concerted numbers were also very popular. The following items constituted the programme:—Piano solo, E. Emmett (Hamilton East Presbyterian); recitation, Ivy Killiam (Frankton Mel ho Jist) ; song, “Vesper Song,” Salvation Army Life Guards; dialogue, "The Intruder,” Baptist junior girls; recitation, Wilma Thomas (Frankton Presbyterian) ; instrumental trio, Misses A.
