OVERSEAS COMPETITION. 13,000 GUINEAS CHANGE HANDS. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., reporting on the Stud Jersey Cattle Sales of the past week advise that the top price of the series was paid at the final dispersal sale of the To Ante Stud. Pukehou, Hawke s Bay. This was 400 guineas for the 16-months-old bull, Te Auto Sybils Marvel, which had been used as a junioi herd sire. He was sired by the great champion imported bull, Sybil s Gamboge's Dreadnought, and claimed is his dam, the Empire Champion producer,' Holly Oak Annie, 10561 b. butterfat, sold at last year’s sale also ioi 400 guineas to Mr G. G. C. Dormer, Cheltenham. - The producer was die Wairarapa breeder, Mr J. L. ileckicr, of GreytoWn. Sybil’s Gamboges Dreadnought was unfortunately lame, and therefore sold at the low price of 115 guineas to Mr A. Edgar, of Waipukurau. Nine of his sons a\ciaged, however, 90 guineas. The other imported herd sire, Vive la France s Lest Son, the greatest butterfat bred bull imported into New Zealand realised 320 guineas, the purchaser being the wellknown breeder, Mr F. J. Saxbj, Ohaupd Road, Hamilton, owner of the Champion Butterfat Sire, Waipiko Masterpiece, to whose daughters lie will he mated. The top price for females was 200 guineas paid by Mi John Robb, of Westrncpe, Wanganui, lor Abbcriey Susie, in calf to Vive la France's Last Sou. Her nine-months-old heifer was purchased by Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd. for export to Durban. Mr Robb also secured another fine cow in Willowbank Gipsy, also by the noted sire, Hawkesburv Emperor, at 115 guineas. Keen interest was displaved in the members of the Body Oak Annie family. Her grandam, Dark Prim, rising 17 years, realised 4o guineas to the hid of Mr Edgar, ami her dam, Ancerine, rising 15 yeai>, was purchased by Mr J. L. Heckle* for 150 guineas. Mr Dermer, the owner of I-lolly Oak Annie, secured several of her descendants, and competition was very keen for the you-ig bulls and heifers of the strain, the thirteen head representing it and including several calves, averaging 11a guineas. The fine cow, Viola’s Queen Bess winner of the Royal Championship,’ and now rising 10 years old, was well bought at 180 guineas by Mr J. A. Mitchell, of Longburn. Her yearling daughter, Tc Aute Sybil’s Bess, a heifer that was greatly admired, was purchased lor export to South Africa at 107 4 guineas. Another fine cow, although unsound in one uu&rtorj was.imported Sybil s Majest.v u Pride, which Mr 1L L. Horn, of Ohau, secured at 155 guineas. The average tor the whole catalogue of 61 head, m eluding calves and a number of unsound cows, was 7 / guineas, iim keen competition for the bulls bred in the stud is indicated also by the iact that 24 head catalogued averaged JOi guineas, all ages.

Dannovirke Club’s Sal©. Prior to the Te Aute sale, the Dannevirke Jersey Club's annual sale was conducted by the Hawke’s Bay farmers' Co-op., in conjunction with Wright Stephenson & Co., Ltd. The day following the Te Aute sale the same firms conducted Mr 11. H. Phillips’ sixth annual sale at Te Rehunga. Although the afternoon was chilly, the attendance was representative/ Bidding was steady throughout, and a total realisation of 10184 guineas was made for 20 cows, live in-calf heifers, and 24 wcaner heifers and bulls. The top price was 50 guineas, paid for the seven-montlis-old bull calf out of Jersey Meadows’ Iris, 8041 b. butterfat.

The dispersal sale of Mr .C. J. Masters” 'select herd at Ilunterville at-tracted-a good attendance'and competition was well sustained. the sale was conducted byjM'cssrs Abraham and Williams Ltd., in conjunction with Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd. The principal attraction was the herd sire, Waipiko Journalist, six years of age, and sired by Majesty’s Eminent (by Majesty’s Fox from Eminent’s. Maggie, 5721 b. bulterfat as a two-year-old) from that great cow in the breeder’s herd, that of Mr C. G. C. Dermer, in Waipiko Jolctta, 72-i.211b. fat. Messis Chisholm Bros, became the purchasers at 270 guineas. It was announced that as a result of semi-official test of tlie daughters of Waipiko Journalist, lie had duly qualified —at a young agC for the select list of champion bulterfat bulls. The herd comprising thirtv head realised 1219 J guineas, cows” and in-caif rising two-year-old heifer selling up to 50 guineas apiece and Young bulls up to 40 guineas and weancr heifers up to 25 guineas.
