“ONE-EYED” MOTORISTS
MENACE OF THE HIGHWAYS. PRACTICE BECOMING COMMON. Few motorists realise the grave danger which arises from the practice of driving witli one headlight out of commission. Few prosecutions for this offence have cornc before tiic Court lately, and probably as a result more instances of motoring in “oneeyed” style have been evident.
Mr N. E. McAdam, Waikato patrol for the Auckland Automobile Association, told a Waikato Times reporter this afternoon that on a recent Saturday evening he encountered no fewer than six motor cars with only the left headlight burning, on the Te Arohaliarnilton road.
Although it was a coincidence that the right-hand light should be out in each case, the fact that this breach is becoming common is indisputable. Mr McAdam ,thinks that most motorists with defective headlights fail to realise that the nights arc drawing in, and are compelled to drive with only one burning until they reach their destination, lie urges all motorists who have any doubts about the efficiency of I heir head-lamps to arrange for tesls immediately.
