(Received May 15, 9.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, May 14. Dr. C. J. Hcdley Thornton, of London, has arrived with specimens of a new artificial cotton. It is said that this substitute was first found in birds’ nests in. South America, and the refined ' plant from the original had been crossed and re-crossed with 65 different species. The plant was riot subject lo the depredations of the boil weevil; it could-he grown In almost any climate or soil at one-fifth of the cost of growing cotton, and in its final form had more lustre and strength than .real cotton. Dr. Thornton, who is chairman of the English Artificial Cotton Corporation, is here to introduce the fibrous plant to American, cotton growers and manufacturers. .
