BUT POSSESSED £IOOO. OTHER GASES IN AUCKLAND(By Telegraph—Spcoial to Times.) AUCKLAND, Friday. An old man who went to the hospital to have his eyes tested, and whose apparent poverty was a matter of sympathy amongst the doctors and nurses, had £IOOO worth of securities secreted in his clothes. An old lady living in poverty and existing only on the old age pension had £2OO in notes stowed away at her home, the amount being discovered after the woman (aged ninety) had been taken away for medical treatmfAnother old widow, who leased her house because she was too old to live alone, and was supposed to be poor, left in the house £BOO in bearer bonds, which she had evidently forgotten aT about.
