Large sums were distributed among the Mohmands, an influential tribe lit'"" Eastern Afghanistan, in an attempt to win them over to the Government side,,,. Mohmand and Khugeani tribesmen sided witli the King in the recent tribal gathering, and have now re- . turned home to Amalalabad under the control of Sardar Ainadali Jan, cxGovernor of Kabul, who it is rumoured has been declared king of Eastern Afghanistan. The road from Peshawur to Kabul will be opened shortly and traffic has been resumed between Jalabad ah(* Peshawur.
