ENTERTAINMENTS.

THEATRE ROYAL. The super-British production now showing at the Theatre Royal, "The Battles of Coronel and Falkland Islands," is impressing large audiences. The Battle of Goronel, resulting in the total loss of "Good Hope" and "Monmouth," was fought off the Chilian Coast on the eve of Sunday, November Ist., 1914. Trustworthy information of the disaster did not reach the British Admiralty until November sth. The "Invincible" and the "Inflexible" were immediately detached from- the Grand Fleet, hurriedly refitted at Devonport, and under ViceAdmiral Sturdec sailed secretly for the Falkland Islands on November 11th. Other ships were picked up off the Brazilian- Coast and the squadron reached the Falklands on December 7th., a few hours in advance of Von Spee. Before nightfall on December Bth., the whole German squadron (except the "Dresden") was at the bottom of the sea.

STRAND AND TRANKTON THEATRES Great care was taken in making "Playing Straight," the Columbia Master Picture which will be shown at the above Theatres to-night so that it would bring to the screen an actual picture of college life. Occidental College at Eagle Rock, near Hollywood, was used as a location. The buildings, campus, athletic f. Id, and equipment furnish settings the action. The faculty and students co-operated in creating the atmosphere and 20 of its collegiate athletes appear in many of the scenes. Every one of the extra players is either a college or university graduate. Among the schools represented are Harvard; Yale, Cornell, Princeton, Brown, Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan,- University of Washington, and the University of Vancouver. _
