MANGAWARA RIVER.
BOARD STRIKES RATES.
RESIGNATION OF MEMBER. The Mangawara River Board meet to-day Mr James Law presiding in [ho absence of the chairman, Mr L. R. W. Reid Others .present were Messrs Harvey, Green, McGallum, Houghton and R. P. Hazard (clerk) and W. R. Johnson (engineer). Notice was given that the following rates will he struck at the meeting on January 30, 1929: General rate, 3d for "A" land; ljd for " B " land: 3d for " G " land. Special rate: 3d for •'A" land; 2 l-7d for " B " land and i 2-7 d for " C " land. The resignation from the board of Mr W. D. Thompson, of Tc Hoe, was accepted with regret. Mr Thompson said lie would he unable to carry out his obligations to the ratepayers on account of private business. The clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps for the election of a new member. Reclassifications of the Tenfoot special rating area were submitted by the engineer and adopted. The clerk was instructed to advertise to give ratepayers an opportunity to lodge objections. The engineer reported that he had consulted with Mr Bridgman, chairman of the Woodlands Drainage Board, in connection with the overflow from their district into the Mangawara river district. Mr Bridgman had definitely undertaken to construct stop-bank works to mitigate the trouble. A report of this afternoon's proceedings will appear to-morrow.
