THE FARMERS' UNION.

WOMEN'S DIVISION. (By Our Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Hamilton branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union was held on Friday, 7th instant. It was decided to drop the January meeting, as it comes in the holiday season, and to hold the next meeting on the first Friday in February.

Recently a conference of delegates from all the branches was held in Wanganui to consider various problems occurring in connection with the work of the Bush Nurse and Housekeeper Auxiliary. As a result a full report and certain recommendations have been sent to all branches for discussion, and these occupied most of the time at the meeting, it is hoped Uiat the running of this most important branch of the division's activities will be both simplified and extended as a final outcome of these discussions. Last month the branch sent out two emergency housekeepers to remote country districts. From headquarters comes the report that there is urgent need of more housekeepers, and yet more, to give relief to all applicants. Hamilton branch's sub-committee in charge of this work consists of Mrs Oudaille ('phone 3036, P.O. Box 114, Hamilton) and Mrs A. W. Minchin ('phone 2533, of Te Rapa). Country people in urgent need of help should apply to either of these members. Women willing and capable of undertaking the duties of visiting housekeeper should also apply to them for all particulars in connection with the work, and if the result of these inquiries is satisfactory on both sides the applicant's name will be forwarded to headquarters. We require women of resource who are fond of children and of work. A knowledge of country conditions is also desirable, so that they may not be dismayed with what awaits them, for it is no easy matter to go to a strange household where the mother has probably been struggling to carry on longer than she should have done, and in it to restore order and regularity. We need big-hearted, tactful women, who love children, and whose satisfaction j|, is to give a helping hand. All must begin on the emergency staff, but if reports are favourable promotion to the permanent staff will follow if desired.
