Mr Ben Tillett, discussing the common tendency to buy goods exported from other countries, said: "A few davs ago I saw the dockers unloading currants and sultanas from the Levant. I know the living conditions and the wages paid men and women who cultivate and gather them. I reflected nearby ships were unloading similar fruits from Australia, where the standard of living is more in accord with that for which we are striving, and I could not help feeling that therein there was a moral for all our labour folk, and a seasonable moral too. 1 appeal to my fellow-countrymen for fair play within tlie Empire."
