A CHEERLESS OUTLOOK. 250,000 REPORTED IDLE. MEASURES FOR RELIEF. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, December 9. The Government has prepared, and is expected to announce before Christmas, an important scheme to help the coal industry, says the Sunday Express. The public are concerned to learn that 250,000 miners are idle and more than 1,000,000 men, women and children are facing a cheerless Christmas. Thy are now subscribing hastily to the relief funds. The Government’s plan alms at the creation of a huge selling organisation as well as the provision of capital for the development of coal power on scientific lines.
