HENLEY-ON-WAIKATO.

NEW COUNTRY CLUB ESTABLISHED AT ARAPUNI. A new addition to'the tourist resources of the Dominion will bo made by the establishment of a residential country club on the shores of Lake Arapuni, some miles above the Arapuni dam A club has been incorporated under the title of the Henley Club, and the new resort will be known as Hen-ley-on-Waikato.” , Among the requirements of such a club were considered those of goo trout-flshing, a large tract of surrounding country suitable for the pie servation of game, land well adapte to the establishment of a golf course, and ample space available for tennis courts, bowling greens and other sports, while the close proximity ot a sufficiently large sheet of water toi the holding of regattas was desirable. Another important factor was that the property should be sufficiently accessible from all parts of the North Island, while the land should be moderately priced to allow of a reasonable capital outlay. , . During the winter a number of sportsmen have devoted time to the selection of a suitable site. A block of comparatively unimproved land on the shores of Lake Arapuni was chosen, the determining factors being the convenience of access by road and rail. The site is only eight miles from the railway station at Putaruru, and possesses beautiful scenic surroundings, a high, healthy situation and considerable historical interest from Maori associations. Sufficient interest being shown in the proposal and the necessary capital being subscribed, an area of nearly 1000 acres has been bought on the shores of the lake, to which it has a frontage of one mile, while options have been secured over properties of a further 1500 acres, also adjoining the lake. The later area will be devoted to the purposes of a game reserve, and a portion will be used for afforestation purposes, the class of trees to be planted being those most suitable for' a game reserve. The clearing of the club’s property will be commenced immediately after Christmas.
