TE KAWA v. HIGH SCHOOL. WINTER DOES HAT TRICK. Tc Kaw a played the opening match of the season versus High School at Te Kawa on Saturday. Te Kawa batted first, and the score at the fall of the first wicket was 14. Smart and G. Howcroft then carried on the score to 31, when the latter was bowled by Oram. Winter and Smart added another 30 runs before the former was bowled by McMahon. R. Mexted and Smart made things merry for a twe until Smart up by i,«fburn off A. Shepherd. This was the last wicket that fell, and C. and R. Mexted hit out freely till thev retired on reaching the thirty mark. The only others to bat were Ashton and Wilson, who scored 10 not out and 2 not out respectively. Te Kawa then declared the innings closed at 157 runs for 6 wickets. For High School A. J. Shepherd bore the brunt of the attack, keeping excellent length throughout. He sent down 12 overs for 20 runs and two wickets. High School opened with A. J. "THE GIRL FRIEND" v. PRESS, AUCKLAND, Thursday. A cricket match was played yesterday afternoon between teams representing "The Girl Friend'' musical comedy company and the New Zealand Herald. The game resulted in a win for lhc Herald team by three runs, after an exciting finish. Batting first Herald declared with seven wickets down for 183 (L. huiney 58 retired, C. IS. Guiney 55 retired, G. IS. J. Calder 4G retired, Edmonds 11 not out). Le BruQ, Sharland and Franklyn each took a wicket for the theafrictl company, who were all out for 385 (Le Brun G 4, Short 37, SHarland 27, Dunne 13, Franklyn 12).
