AUCKLAND'S CHAMPION. AUCKLAND. Saturday; The Auckland Athletic and Cycling Club held its 14-mile club championship at Mangere this afternoon, and also a seven-mile consolation race. Results: 14-mile Race.—J. Lindop 1, F. Prior 2. K. J. Mathieson 3. Time, 40m 455. This was a scratch race. Lindop, despite desperate efforts by Prior, Mathieson and Francis, won comfortably by two lengths. After the race G. Mathieson presented Lindop with the championship sash to the accomponiment. of three cheers. Consolation Race.—N. Whyte (1m 455) 1, H. Lee (2m) 2, P. Rickman (lm 455) 3. Time, 24m 6s. Fastest time, D. Storey (scr.) 22m 435. Won by 20 lengths, similar distance separating second and third. ASHEURTON TO CHRISTCHURCH. EIGHTY-SIX COMPETITORS. ASHBUHTON, Saturday. Eighty-six of the 89 competitors in the 53-miles amateur cycle race from Ashburton to Christchurch started at 12.4 0 in rain, with a strong southwest wind. The scratched men included F. J. Grose (scr.) and E. Hewson (8 min.) The race resulted: 11. Harper (Waltham, 19m), 2h 32m, i; W. Wileockson (Papanui, 9im), 2u 32m 12s, 2: 11. Quill (Spreydon, 14m), 2h 32m 375, 3. The fastest time was achieved by W F. Wileockson off scratch, who completed the journey in 2h 18m 275.
