BRITISH MIGRANTS.
MR AMERY'S UNDERTAKING CONFIRMED BY LORD LOVAT. PUBLIC SCHOOL-BOYS PREFERRED PALMERSTON N., Saturday. Confirmation of the undertaking given by Mr L. C- M. S. Amery when in New Zealand that the British Government would be prepared to make advances to desirable settlers by way of amortisation of loans on a 50-50 basis with the Dominion was received from Lord Lovat by Mr R. D. Abraham, of Palmerston North, who aocompanied him to Marton yesterday. So far as public school immigrants were concerned Mr Abraham was able to prove that 80 per cent, had been successful on farms where they had been placed. Seventy per cent, of the farmers are quite satisfied with the boys, asking for more to be sent. He considered that these boys from the great middle classes of England made the best migrants, provided they were carefully selected and were provided with money to establish themselves on farms when their apprenticeship was over.
