A message from Los Angeles states that Doctor Robert Neale, a surgeon, always believed that the shock patients suffered following major operations was due to the anaesthetic rather than to the operation itself- In order to prove this theory, Dr. Neale operated on himself for appendicitis. Next day he said: "I feel like rising and waiting; I am sure I have the strength, and I certainly will not stay in bed for the regulation ten days."
